About

David C. Jensen, well-travelled incorrigible nature boy, creates oil paintings in the magic realism vein,

David began his life in rural upstate New York, enthralled by birds, trees, and any implement that left a colorful mark. His astute parents arranged for art lessons. During boyhood, David’s family relocated to a bucolic village west of Chicago where his love of the woods and birds was nurtured. He never made it home before dark despite the rule, and developed a fondness for cold dinners.

School desks were traps, and David knew it. After barely graduating high school he made a handful of attempts to complete an art degree before being saved by the graphic and print industry; this was where he finally found a desk he could love. He worked in the field for over 30 years, navigating the pivots from traditional hand-made art to computer graphic design.

O pointy birds,
O pointy pointy,
Anoint my head,
Anointy-nointy.“

John Lillison

Erstwhile, David married twice and became a father to four. He attempted and sometimes succeeded, in producing and showing his own fine art. Often he committed his talents to moonlit projects, supplying illustratiolns and other designs for his creative friends’ and other clients’ promotional materials. Sometimes this work was begun in sketchbooks from a nearby trail, or wherever birds congregated.

After the kids were mostly raised and on their own, David, the spouse, and their youngest left Chicagoland for elderly parent caregiving duties in other beautiful places. David lived, worked, and sometimes painted in Nevada City CA, Portland OR, and Seven Lakes NC. He was always happiest living in places that required wood heat, oil lamps, and assured periodic interactions with bears, foxes, rattlesnakes, and countless birds.
